Take a closer look at this isolated character in a corner. Like a disguise, playing on the confusion of the viewer’s perception, this sophisticated character emphasizes the notion of deceptive appearance, of buffoonery. Hertug wanted to reduce humanity to a single character, a singularity among others, to highlight the extent to which existence obliges us to forge different appearances, disguises of the mind in order to satisfy the expectations of the society. We are modern Harlequins, passengers of ephemeral, random time, we follow the wave, but we no longer see that it is a tsunami of absurdities.
